National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) are currently engaged in providing 650MW electricity supply to K-Electric. The agreement of such exchange expired last year in January and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has advised both parties to sign a new power supply contract if they wish to continue.
NEPRA official said that, if K-Electric imports electricity without signing a contract then it will be considered as illegal.
The reason K-Electric are dependent on external providers of electricity is because they are not producing sufficient amount of electricity. In order to meet the demand K-Electric must work to increase its generation capacity.
K-Electric recently added 1,034 MW electricity but also closed 685 MW from its system.
They further added 349 MW due to the closure of some of its generation capacity.
