Dr Osama Riaz, a young dedicated physician embraced martyrdom from the deadly COVID 19 while performing his duty in Peshawar. He was a member of the team consist of 10 doctors that is assigned the task to screen the travelers returning to Gilgit Baltistan from overseas especially Iran. Later on, he provided services in isolation centers. As reported by his associates, Dr Osama ignored his health in order to perform his duty, he overworked to provide all the comfort to his patients.   

Dr. Osama Riaz was taken to Provincial Headquarters Hospital after he was found unconscious and put on the ventilator on immediate basis. Unfortunately, he could not resist the infection and passed away. It is unpleasantly surprising, rather shocking that his body could not resist at the age of 26. However, doctors are looking further into the complications in his case. Whatever the case may be, Dr. Osama is praised for his dedication, he is considered a national hero to serve his life voluntarily for the nation.

COVID 19 has taken over the world, world countries face lock down. Pakistan follows. All the institutions whether governmental or non-governmental to be closed for 15 days from March, 22, 2020. The world is undergoing drastic changes, economies draining and stock exchange bears loss, education suffers, international and domestic flights suspended. As much as it damages the surface structure of the world, it also puts a psychological pressure on the minds of the citizens. In fact, it has taken the shape of a global trauma, a psychological war, an unknown terror, isolation is the only known solution to stay uninfected from this life-threatening COVID 19 so far.

Italy is one of the hardest hit countries from the COVID 19 pandemic since the death toll rises to 4,825. People all over the world are instructed to encourage self-isolation by social distancing in order to stop the spreading of the disease. On the lighter note, to relieve COVID 19 stress, people in Italy sang it out to lift spirits from their windows. Pakistan on the other side reported 3 deaths from the virus, while the confirmed cases rises to up to 600, the numbers may increase if strict precautionary measures are not taken on priority.

Karachi, a city which gives us food, shelter, money, even fulfil almost every basic need of ours. It is a city of lights and most importantly it’s a metropolitan city , an economic hub for Pakistan. This land always gives us what we demand from it but what we are doing for our city ? what we doing with our city? It is a big question!
From the past few years people of Karachi are facing such a worst weather as it’s almost more than 38-39 degrees everyday. We are taking it as normal when all of a sudden it was started from 2015 but now it’s 2019 and still we are not thinking about this drastic climatic changes, day after day we are facing the worst rising temperature.
The Karachities are living in such horrible conditions. In burning hot weather we are terribly facing electricity shortage, gas load shedding, shortage of water. That means in a metropolitan city people are in trauma and they don’t even have basic necessities. It is such an alarming situation and we all have to think about it seriously.

Other than our basic needs, there is also some major issues one of them are of garbage. Yes most of our places have garbage and no one is ready to solve this issue only blaming each other is going on. Now who is responsible? Government or public? As in a very clear thought both are equally responsible for the situation. If government is responsible for not providing sufficient electricity then on the other hand we are also responsible because we are not using it in a right way we are not paying bills on time and most importantly corruption in the department and the kunda system also. If we are talking about water, then also we both are responsible because government is not taking any action to overcome this major issue but we are also wasting water carelessly.

In any problem, not a single person is responsible as government, they should do something on an urgent basis. We need plantation more than buildings or shopping malls and we all have to understand this that deforestation is the main reason of rising temperature day after day. Government have to show concerns because this land gave us and is giving us everything so we should own our city, own your environment and most importantly authorities should own civilians issues afterall only because of the civilians politicians are in the assemblies despite of all this authorities should take immediate action and we should also think that what we can do, atleast we can plant a single pot for us and for the betterment of our environment. If we want to bring change. We should love our city, own your city!

Soon after the verdict of Asia Bibi’s trial was announced by the SCP, the roads were blocked with everything set ablaze by the agitators, businesses closed and streets barren; reminding of a bleak era of MQM’s strikes and street power shows. The response of fanatics was as if the case was the only and most important issue Pakistan had faced in yesteryears.
So how did it all start? Asia Bibi, a mother of five, was accused of committing blasphemy in 2009. She allegedly used inappropriate sentences for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the Quran in an argument with three Muslim ladies while all four were picking up fruits in the fields. The three ladies along with a local cleric, were the eyewitnesses of the case. The same religious cleric Qari Muhammad Salaam reported to nearest police station about the incident and appealed against the Asia Bibi with respect to her “sarcastic” remarks against the Holy Prophet.
The three ladies also claimed that the Asia Bibi admitted making the statements in a “public gathering” and asked for forgiveness. After a several month trial of the case, the trial court convicted Asia Bibi for blasphemy and sentenced to death in November 2010. Asia Bibi’s prosecution team knocked the doors of LHC. Surprisingly, the decision was retained.

In the midst of all the events, there remains numerous loop holes in the case of Asia Bibi. The prosecution presented seven witnesses but was the credibility of witnesses inquired by the justice system? According to Section 295-C, the “Takzia-tul-Shuhood” (inquiry by the courts to establish the credibility of witnesses) must be established, which they utterly failed. Most importantly, what was the stance or answer of Asia Bibi regarding the case? Did anyone bothered to ponder upon her reply?
According to Asia Bibi, the quarrel started over the refusal of the three ladies from drinking water which was brought by a Christian lady; Asia Bibi herself. Asia Bibi admitted that there was an exchange of “hot words” among the ladies present over there, but does that really mean that those hot words were exactly depicting the blasphemy? The Blasphemy Law of Pakistan clearly mentions that the law is only applicable to a person who intendedly uses unsuitable remarks against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). So did she use the so called “hot words” intendedly?
It is the stark reality of the Blasphemy Law of Pakistan that it has been used for personal benefits, to punish the other person over personal conflicts using the blasphemy law. Consequently, raising concerns over the legitimacy of the law. These type of laws in an uneducated society put great threat on the security of minorities. Although, 295-C gives sheer independence to the accused person to defend himself with evidences, minorities are still in danger of being harassed under the umbrella of blasphemy law because of masses being uneducated; following and believing their particular clerics and Molvis as always right.
Consider a person abusing the other person whose name is “Ahmed” or “Mustafa”, would that be a blasphemy? Since both the mentioned names are of our Holy Prophet (PBUH), one can misrepresent the scenario easily to achieve personal benefits. Every day, tens of Muslims eat Samosas rapped in a newspaper-containing the holy names in articles and news, with a cup of Chai and throws the paper immediately into a trash. Would that be a blasphemy? Intentions matter a lot in blasphemy cases.
A person would be a buffoon who intendedly uses inappropriate remarks against the Holy Prophet, especially in a Muslim dominated society. Secondly, half of the nation is oblivious of the laws of Pakistan. Before implementing these type of laws that have direct threat to a person’s life, they need to be apprehended and make the people understand about the laws; especially the minorities who are generally unaware of the Muslim laws.
Last but not the least, no one has a right to put a tag of “gustakh” or “Wajib-ul-Qatal” over anyone. Today, a person’s life has been revived and a bunch of people are feeling sad over it. How ironic is this to know that people are protesting only because a person is not going to be sentenced to death. People in my society are happier over the death of someone rather than the revival of his/her life. Islam was such a cruel religion-neither had I believed earlier, nor will I believe in future.

Few days back a helper was witnessed in some famous restaurant who was witnessed yet ignored or you can say we were so much lost in the taste and lust of our so-called trendy life where we actually remember to take pictures of that food but not that living being around us, this incident happened at Espresso situated at Dolmen City Mall, HOD Tehmina Lodhi from Iqra University was also sitting by she witnessed all this and took some pictures of this boy and as she was upto buy this home helper a meal, the family left. How many of us witnessed this? Or you can say how many of us noticed. And those who have noticed were not bothered enough to speak up to go and confront those people who were busy in eating but their house helper was lonely shattered hungry finding happiness and acceptance here and there. Alas, no one bothered either just like that family and just like us. Living in a world where live and let live is being highlighted we have even forgotten that they are also among us who wants acceptance and importance too. So many of us did not raise our concerns because of this live and let live ideology. That it’s their house helper if they are not concerned why should we be, it’s their life why should we poke our nose. Justifiable! But what about humans right? Hopefully, this comes in some human right too and if not then there should be some rights like these too where you cannot mistreat your house helps like this or you cannot just ignore them and their happiness when you are most concerned about yours. We all should think once a little effort can result in someone’s happiness. A thought can bring a change it does! a small act can bring so much of happiness a little sacrifice brighten up someone’s entire day a little gesture can take their sorrows away.
